Although we’ve been looking at common aspect of writing a Will, the legal stuff, the Do’s and Don’t. By now, you’ll realize that the majority of people don’t get round to writing one. If they do write a Will, its normally about who gets what and who takes care of the children etc etc. Here is a something quite different. It is a final farewell letter to his readers, his wife and his final thoughts.
Maj. Andrew Olmsted, a Babylon 5 fan, who was sent to Iraq, instructed a friend post his final post on his blog it in the event of his death. It is a long post and since we can read it, it means Maj. Olmsted has passed away. In this letter, it is a man’s final thoughts which he wants to share with the rest of the world.
How many ever thought to do that?
He wrote about his choices in life, his strengths, weakness etc. Somehow Andrew sort of knew his time is coming and even the way he would die. He thanks a friend for being willing to post the final letter when he dies.
“It’s not easy asking anyone to do something for you in the event of your death, and it is a testament to her quality that she didn’t hesitate to accept the charge.”
Being a soldier, I truly admire him for the principles he choose to uphold. Most of us can back away when thing don’t go our way, but in obeying orders to fight a war, he kept his promise to uphold the nation choices. Whether he agree or disagree, he did not say!
It is quite a read. Sad, truthful, be prepared for it to touch your heart. Perhaps we can learn from Olmsted and beside writing a Will, leave a final farewell letter to your loved ones. Tell them thing you have not told them, how you loved them, cherish them, missed them. It is your final farewell.
This is such good information. It is a hard subject to think about, and easier to put off…but so important to do. Thanks for the wonderful and sensitive information.
